Happy B-Day Elvis Presley...

Elvis Presley was born January 8, 1935.

It has been reported that Elvis Presley wanted a bicycle for his eleventh birthday in 1946. His family could not afford the $55 it would have cost for the bicycle he wanted. His mother Grace, persuaded him to get a 6 string guitar for $7.75 instead. He got the bicycle a year later for Christmas, in 1947.

It is also reported that he was known to have been tooling around the MGM lot on a red tandem bicycle as well. As a matter of fact, there is a wedding service in Las Vegas where you can hire Elvis to pick you up on a tandem bicycle and accompany you to your wedding.

Also, Tadjikistan, part of the former USSR, had produced a postage stamp with a picture of Elvis Presley riding a bicycle. You can buy a sheet of those stamps from Cool Stamps.

I wonder how things would have turned out if he instead got the bicycle in 1946. Hmmm....
